Board Chair Series Episode 7: Neil Cawse
Boardchair Series with Neil Cawse: The AI-Driven Boardroom and the Future of Intelligent Governance
While many corporate boards are still treating Artificial Intelligence as a "future risk" to be mitigated, Neil Cawse is using it as a foundational tool to reinvent how a global company is governed, operated, and scaled.
Recently recognized as The Globe and Mail’s CEO of the Year (Innovator), Neil has transformed Geotab from a hardware-centric telematics firm into an AI powerhouse. By processing over 55 billion data points daily, Geotab doesn’t just track vehicles; it predicts the future of global logistics. For Neil, innovation isn't just a product feature—it is a management philosophy that leverages "engineer-at-heart" logic to solve complex governance challenges.
For this episode of the Boardchair series, David Beatty is joined by Neil Cawse, Founder and CEO of Geotab. Neil will pull back the curtain on how he is embedding AI into the highest levels of executive decision-making and what it means to lead a data-first organization in the age of generative intelligence.
Neil will share his field notes on:
- AI in the Boardroom: Moving from retrospective reporting to predictive strategy and "machine-speed" decision-making.
- Operational Excellence: How Neil uses AI to manage a global workforce and maintain Geotab’s "do the right thing" culture during hyper-growth.
- Predicting Customer Needs: Identifying "invisible" opportunities by mining massive data sets to solve safety and sustainability challenges before they arise.
- The Innovator’s Governance: Lessons from a founder-CEO on balancing technical disruption with fiduciary responsibility.
Janet will offer a masterclass in stripping governance down to its most essential, value-driving components. She will also share updates on her firm’s recent Fund II ($50M) announcement, her fund’s top-decile performance among VC and PE funds across North America, and her 2026 recognition as a Woman of Distinction by the Canadian Venture Capital Association.
